Studi status mangrove dan padang lamun untuk mendukung upaya mitigasi perubahan iklim di Maluku

Several basic studies about the status of mangrove and seagrass have been carried out in some coastalwater areas in Maluku, i.e. Ambalau Island, Ambon Bay, Nusalaut Island, and Piru Bay. These researchstudies were undertaken from 2008 to 2015 (Ambalau Island: 2008; Ambon Bay: 2008-2014; NusalautIsland: 2009, 2014, 2015; and Piru Bay: 2010). The results indicated that there were various ecologicalconditions for both mangrove and seagrass ecosystem. First of all, mangrove and seagrass with the goodcategory were found in Ambalau Island, Piru Bay, and Nusalaut Island, while in Ambon Bay there was adegradation on ecosystem health due to deforestation, land use changes in coastal areas andsedimentation. Secondly, the species of mangrove that dominates in each location was different, namelyRhizophora sp in Piru Bay, Rhizophora sp and Sonneratia sp in Nusalaut Island, Sonneratia sp andRhizophora sp in Ambalau Island, Sonneratia sp and Rizophora sp in Ambon Bay. Later on, themangrove density at each site was also different. Following that, the seagrass species composition wasalso varied. Enhalus acoroides and Thalassia hemprichii were the dominan species in Ambon Bay,Cymodocea rotundata and Thalassia hemprichii in Ambalau island, and Thalassia hemprichii inNusalaut Island.
